OpenAI Introduces Flexible Rate Limit System for Codex

OpenAI has introduced a flexible rate limit system for its Codex coding assistant, allowing users to save rate limit resets for later use. This move is part of the company's efforts to prevent server overload and distribute compute evenly, benefiting power users and developers.

The flexible rate limit system is currently rolling out to ChatGPT Go, Plus, Pro, and Business tiers. Eligible users can earn up to four resets, with one free banked reset and up to three more through a limited-time referral pilot. This feature is designed to give users more control over their Codex usage and prevent them from being cut off in the middle of a heavy coding session.
